Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What's the difference between the Framework EDI Enterprise and Professional License?
A. The main difference between the two licenses is that the Enterprise is a site license (which allows your company to install it on all computers at the
site), while the Professional is a single user license. Also, the Enterprise License includes all the SM Plug-Ins, and support for AS2 development, while the
Professional License does not include them. If you have a team of developers and plan to deploy your EDI solution to many computers at your company, then
the Enterprise License may be a more cost-effective choice.

Q. I have the FREDI Professional License. Is it possible for me to get AS2 Support?
A. Yes, you can get AS2 support with the purchase of the AS2 Support package ($499), which includes utilities such as the
eSecurity Console (for managing security certificates) and the AS2 Unwarpper (for troubleshooting AS2 messages).
The package also includes C# AS2 Server and AS2 client example programs.
Q. Do I need to purchase a runtime license if I'm deploying my EDI program in-house?
A. The Professional License package already includes a Server Runtime License, which you can use to deploy
with your in-house application to a server. Additional deployments to other computers would require additional purchases of a runtime license
per computer. But, with the Enterprise License package, you would not need to purchase any runtime license even if your EDI solution is deployed
to several computers in-house because it is a site license. The Enterprise License also includes two Server Runtime Licenses, which allows
you to deploy your EDI solution to two other servers at a different site.
Q. What's the difference between a Runtime License and a Server Runtime License?
A. The Server Runtime can execute unlimited instances of itself on the same machine thus allowing multiple applications
that are using the FREDI component to run concurrently; while the standard runtime license does not allow multiple applications to run concurrently.
Also, the Server Runtime includes the eFileManager, SEF Manager and eSecurity Console utilities, while the standard Runtime does not.
Neither the Server Runtime nor the standard runtime license can be used for development. If you are deploying a server application, a
Server Runtime License is required.
Q. I'm a programmer consultant who is developing an EDI application for my client. What Framework EDI license would I need?
A. You would need at least the Framework EDI Professional License for EDI application development. If you do a lot of EDI programming consulting,
then it may be cost-effective for you to own the Professional License and buy a Framework EDI Runtime License for each EDI application (you've created using
Framework EDI) that you deploy to your clients. If you don't do much EDI programming consulting, then it may be cost-effective for you to have your clients
purchase and own the Professional License, and just have you develop the EDI solution for them.
Q. I'm creating an EDI solution on a server. What Framework EDI package would I need?
A. If you're not creating an AS2 Solution, then you can just purchase the
Framework EDI Professional package, which has the Professional License for development, and a Server Runtime License
for deployment; if you are developing an AS2 Server, then we recommend getting the Framework EDI
Enterprise package to get AS2 support.
Q. I have a team of developers, and plan to create an EDI solution to install on several computers in the company, as well as on a couple of servers
in our other offices. What would be the cost-effective Framework EDI licenses in this scenario?
A. It would be cost-effective to purchase the Enterprise Package because the Enterprise License is a site license, which allows you to install it on all computers
that are physically located at your site. The Enterprise Package also includes two Server Runtime Licenses to allow you to deploy the Framework EDI components to two other servers
at different sites.
Q. Do any of the licenses include SEF files?
A. No, none of the licenses include any SEF file. For ASC/X12 users, you must purchase the license for the standard you want to use from X12 as Edidev does not have the right to distribute their intellectual property. Edidev will convert the standard to SEF for you. You may obtain the license here https://x12.org/licensing.
Q. Do the Professional or Enterprise Licenses have any recurring fees such as annual, subscription or support/maintenance fees?
A. None of the licenses have recurring fees. (However, you can subscribe to
our Maintenance and Support to get support beyond the 1 year free support and get free FREDI license updates.)
Minor updates (no new features) can be downloaded for free from our Customer Support website, while major updates (releases with new features) are usually
priced about 25% of the full price. Support is by email only, however some issues may require us to schedule a remote session with you to share your
computer screen. For more details about our support subcription, please visit "EDIdEv Maintenance & Support Subscription"
